Ellie Jane Goulding born 30th December, 1986 in Hereford England. Her mother Tracey Goulding-Summers was employed at a supermarket and her father Arthur Goulding was a member of an undertaker's family. Goulding's older sister Isabel, and second sister Jordan are all children. Alex is her brother. Alex her brother plays bass and is a member of an Hereford band. In her early years, his mother was encouraging her to get into the instrument. When she was nine years old, she started taking classes in clarinet. She began to write herself songs around the age of 14 however it wasn't until she left for college that she started to pursue writing songs. Goulding was fascinated by electronic music and dance as she studied. Through MySpace she got in touch with record producer Frankmusik and, with the help of Frankmusik she created her kind of folktronica music. Jamie Lillywhite noticed her and became her manager. In the following years, he was asked to take on the role of A.&R during a talent show. Lillywhite later introduced her to the music producer Starsmith who was instrumental in the release on 15 November 2009 of her debut single under the Sheets. In the following months, he was involved in her album Lights. While they released the album Under the Sheets through the independent label Neon Gold Records, she was signed already with Polydor Records.
